Professional Development for In-Service Teachers
The professional development topics we believe will be beneficial to the faculty of White Knoll High School are:
- Engaging Strategies/Differentiated Instruction
- Creating Valid and Reliable Assessments
- Understanding Poverty
Engagement in Collaborative Research
One project that would be an asset to our faculty is how to develop Mental Models that can be used to help students understand abstract concepts.
Examination and Implementation of the National Network for Educational Renewal’s Agenda for Education in a Democracy
We are very excited to be the latest high school to work collaboratively with the University of South Carolina’s Professional Development Schools initiative. As we began the application process in December, 2006, we familiarized ourselves with the twenty postulates discussed in the National Network for Educational Renewal’s Agenda for Education Democracy and identified postulates 8 and 15 as being currently exhibited in the culture of White Knoll High School. We also determined that we would like to see postulates 9, 11, and 16 embedded in our work with students. As we work collaboratively within our school, district and with the University of South Carolina in the coming years, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of the Agenda for Education in a Democracy and infuse this information throughout the everyday instruction we provide to our students.
