Meadowfield is located in Columbia, off Garners Ferry Road, behind the Dorn Veteran’s Hospital.  The school serves 640 students from four year old child development through grade five including three self-contained special education classes.  In addition to the academic core curriculum, students have opportunities to engage in enrichment and accelerated programs, science laboratory,  after school programs,  computer  laboratory,  chorus,  world   music ensemble, strings, and recreational experiences.

Meadowfield’s high quality educational program is delivered by effective teachers and supported through strong parental support. Meadowfield earned the School Incentive Reward three times and achieved Red Carpet status from 2004-2007.   Paula Stephens serves as principal.

In 2005, Meadowfield embarked on the quest to become the first Paideia Academy in South Carolina.  Positive results from teachers, parents, and students are already evident as year two of the three year implementation process is underway.  The first year involved learning and practicing seminars.  Students shared ideas and values in an open-ended discussion surrounding a text. The texts varied and included poems, paintings, songs, fables, quotes, and different types of artifacts.

This school year marks the implementation of “Coached Projects”. A Paideia Coached Project is a unit of study that leads to a student production or performance of real value to an audience outside the classroom. Coached Projects provide both teacher and students the opportunity to focus on the production of relevant academic work and to measure the quality of that work against authentic standards.
