Professional Development Focus
Blythewood High School continues to explore the strategies for Smaller Learning Communities. Our student population is divided into four houses with supporting administrators, lead teachers, and guidance counselors. This year, we are implementing one strategy to develop house communities: an advisory program called P.A.W.S. (Planning and Advisory with Students). Monthly professional development will focus on interdisciplinary teams and diversity.
Research Interests
The Blythewood High School PDS will be investigating the purpose and use of questioning in the classroom. Several teachers will participate in this initiative that will provide some feedback on the instructional decisions faced by teachers.
The National Network for Educational Renew-al's Agenda for Education in a Democracy
Blythewood High School is most actively engaged in what the NNER calls “simultaneous renewal.” Professional Learning Teams have been formed that evaluate issues of pedagogy and curriculum. Our teacher candidates are included in these professional meetings and urged to contribute their knowledge and experiences. We will work on establishing collaborative groups that bring together USC secondary education faculty, Blythewood High School teachers, and teacher candidates in the core disciplines this year. |
