FAQs

How does a school apply to be a PDS?

Any school that accepts USC teacher candidates is automatically considered a Partnership Site; there is no formal application process. Schools wishing to be considered for Professional Development School designation must submit an application, which can be found at the SUPCE website. Applications are solicited every Spring in odd-numbered years.

What incentives are there for working with teacher candidates?

Although the most apparent incentive for school and teacher participation is the lasting positive impact that can be made upon a future teacher, more concrete incentives are available to teachers who work with teacher candidates in various clinical experiences. For all experiences prior to the final internships, coaching teachers will be provided, upon request, a letter from SC that may be used for CEUs in adherence with district guidelines. For the final internship experiences, coaching teachers receive tuition reduction credits for one USC course, which must be redeemed within two years of the experience. For further information about these credits, contact Beth Looney (777-4837; blooney@gwm.sc.edu).

How do I sign up for ADEPT Training?

USC offers half-day (morning) training sessions on the second Saturdays of August, November, January, and April. The training schedule is posted on the SUPCE website, with instructions to contact the SUPCE Administrative Assistant, Kathy Hartley,(777-5991; khartley@gwm.sc.edu) to sign up for the training.
