When registering for any Praxis exam, list both the University of South Carolina (5818) and the South Carolina Department of Education (8108) as score recipients.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Praxis exam do I take, Praxis I or Praxis II?
Praxis I, also know as the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) or the Computerized Pre-Professional Skills Test (C-PPST), is taken by students in teacher certification programs to meet the entry requirement into the Professional Program. Praxis II is typically taken during your Senior year as part of the teacher certification process.
How do I schedule the Praxis I exam?
For the C-PPST, contact the USC Testing Center at 777-2782. For the pencil and paper version (PPST), go online to www.ets.org/praxis to register.
Can other tests I've taken be substituted for the Praxis I?

What sections of Praxis I must be taken?
Reading, Writing, and Math must all be passed by the deadline for your program.
What is the deadline for passing the Praxis I?
Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Education students must pass the Praxis I by December 1 of the calendar year in which you apply to the Professional Program. For Elementary Education students, Professional Program applications are submitted during their Sophomore Spring semester. For Early Childhood and Middle Level Education students, Professional Program applications are submitted during their Junior Fall semester.
Physical Education-Teacher Certification students must pass the Praxis I prior to taking PEDU 440 and PEDU 462 in their Senior Fall semester.
What is a passing score on the Praxis I?
For the Reading component, a passing score is 175. For the Writing component, a passing score is 173. For the Math component, a passing score is 172.
How many times can I take the Praxis I?
You may take each section once per calendar month up to six times in a 12-month period. If you violate this restriction, the scores from your retest will not be reported and your test fees will not be refunded. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously. These restrictions are set by the Education Testing Service (ETS). See www.ets.org/Praxis for more information.

If I don't pass all three sections of the Praxis I, do I have to take all three sections over?
No, you only have to retake the sections you did not pass.

Can I take the ACT or SAT again instead of the Praxis I?
Yes, if you choose to.
