UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA

Information for specific audiences:

COE Research

Thank you for visiting the College of Education's research information page. We have designed this site as a place to share information about the active research programs being carried on by the faculty in the College.

All tenured and tenure-track faculty, as well as our research faculty, have research agendas within their individual disciplines and consistent with the College mission. In addition, there are a number of collaborations among faculty members within the College as well as with our colleagues from other colleges, including the colleges of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, and Public Health. The College also houses two offices with a research focus, The South Carolina Policy Center and the Office of Program Evaluation, and a Grants and Contracts Office to provide support for initiating and maintaining funded research projects.

Many of our research activities are funded through external agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, and the Spencer Foundation. We also conduct research to assist policy-makers at the State and local levels in making data-based decisions. In fact, the College faculty brings in over $5 million annually in grants and contracts to support their work. Currently we are in the midst of a new initiative to increase the amount of externally-funded research in the College. Our goal is $10 million annually by 2010. Achieving this goal will position the College to further enhance its research mission and provide a wealth of data to inform the educational community.

On this page you will find more information about specific research in the College of Education, as well as links to research offices and projects within the College and some select findings that provide a glimpse into our faculty research activities. I trust that this information will give you a better understanding of how our College faculty members go beyond state-of-the-art teaching to also promote high-quality education through the scientific exploration of teaching and learning processes and a host of related societal education issues. By so doing, we are accepting our role within a top-tier research University to strengthen public education and support state and national education policy.
