The SC State Literacy Conference is held each year in Charleston SC at the Charleston Place hotel. This year the event is scheduled December 11-13. This conference draws educators together from across the state for three days of learning and collaboration. This is a popular conference that always gets booked early.
In addition to the conference, the SC State Department of Education also offers a Best Practice Seminar series. Teachers get to choose from a variety of one day seminars which showcase notable authors and experts in content area literacy practices. This seminar series is cost effective and offers teachers books and resources they can take back to the classroom immediately. Teachers comment how much these seminars have impacted their classroom practices. This is another very popular professional development event with SC teachers.
