1.Is there anything I can do if a class is full?
Continue to check the Master Schedule on VIP. If an opening occurs, register immediately. If there are no openings by the first class meeting, go to class and speak with the instructor individually following class to see if it is possible for them to allow you in the class.
2. How do I find out what level of course is appropriate for me?
First read over the course syllabus and description found on our web page. If you are still unsure, contact the instructor(s) in regard to the various course levels and how they relate to your skill level. If necessary, they will be able to assist you in determining which course level in which you should enroll.
3. Where is the "Blatt PE Center"?
The Blatt is located at 1300 Wheat Street next door to the USC Children's Center. You must have a vailid Carolina Card in order to enter this facility.
4. Should I dress for an activity class on the first day of class?
As a general rule, expect to participate on the first day of class. Each instructor handles the first day of class differently and it is better to be prepared for activity than not be prepared and be unable to participate. Many times, instructors will email their class on Blackboard with this information ahead of the first class meeting.

Yes, you can contact the Physical Activity Office at 777.3239. If we cannot be of direct assistance, we will contact the instructor and get back to you as soon as possible. If there is no answer, please leave a message or try calling again.

12. Do I get a locker?
You can buy a locker for $50 for the year or semesterly. Lockers are available from Equipment Issue located on the second floor of the Blatt. You will need your Carolina Card. The phone number at Equipment Issue is 777.3878.
13. Are shower facilities and towel service available?
Yes, there are men's and women's locker rooms in Blatt. You may complete a form and leave your ID or pay a one time fee of $5 to have a towel and laundry service. Simply drop off your dirty gym clothes and they will be washed for you each night. Towels are issued on an "exchange" basis. i.e. drop off the dirty towel and a clean one will be issued.
14. Can I take an Activity class Pass/Fail?
Yes. You may want to take an activity class Pass/Fail if you are concerned about having the grade averaged into your GPA. NOTE: If your class starts late in a semester, be certain to register for pass/fail during the first few weeks of the semester as you may miss the "pass/fail" deadline if you wait until the first week of class. 15. If I miss class can I make up the time?
The USC attendance policy that states that you cannot miss more than 10% of the total class meetings without penalty. Each instructor sets their own attendance regulations but typically, an absence that is not excused or excused and not made up, is penalized by a 5% deduction from your final grade. This penalty varies for classes meeting less than a full semester.
16. Is it possible for me to take the same physical activity class more than once and get academic credit?
A student can retake a course and earn the credit hours and GPA hours. Degree applicability is determined by student’s home college. Please confirm with your academic advisor.
17. Where do of campus classes such as Bowling, Equestrian, Golf, Tennis, Sailing, and selected Weight Training classes meet?
Golf is held at a couple of different locations in Columbia. You can check the Master Schedule on VIP, visit the PAP web page at this link and look for the class syllabus to find directions, or call the department at 777.3172 to get appropriate information. Golf clubs and balls are provided in class for you to use. But, if you have clubs of your own you are welcome to use them.
Equestrian Class- Held in Hopkins, SC. Contact Janet Brown at Softwinds Farm.

Bowling Class- Held at AMF Park Lanes in Cayce.

Columbia Tennis Center- From Blatt PE Center, go east on Wheat St. Turn right on Pickens ST. Go to top of hill and turn left on Whaley St at red light. Dead ends into CTC.
Sailing Class- Held at South Shore Marina
Directions to Southshore Marina, 3072 Highway 378, Leesville, South Carolina, 29070
Take Interstate 20 towards Augusta. Get off at Exit 51
Turn right onto SC-204, Longs Pond Road which turns into Pisgah Church Road
Stay on SC-204 for 4.6 miles. Turn Left onto Highway 378. This is not the Augusta Highway. Stay on Hwy 378 for about 8 miles (The road will narrow after 6 miles) Southshore Marina is on the right. If you get to Charlie’s Fisherman’s Wharf you have gone too far. Call Capt. Brian Adams at 803.317.9060 for more information.
