 Jan has rock climbed for over 25 years. He has climbed extensively in the South East at Looking Glass, Pisgah Forest, NC, Table Rock N C, Linville Gorge NC, Rumbling Bald at Lake Lure North Carolina, and Crowder’s Mt. North Carolina.
In addition he has climbed at the New River Gorge, Fayetteville W.Va. and Red River Gorge, Kentucky. He has also climbed at Seneca Rocks W.Va.
He has also climbed in the west including Little Cottonwood Canyon Salt Lake City Utah, in the Tetons, Jackson Hole Wyoming, and The Wind River Range, near Lander Wyoming and in the Sierras in California.
Jan has climbed extensively out of the United States. He has climbed in Mexico in boulder fields and walls near Guadalajara. In addition he made an ascent of the dormant volcano Nevado de Colima (4330 meters) in the Mexican States of Colima and Jalisco. While climbing Nevado de Colima, he witnessed an eruption of the adjoining volcano (5 miles away) Vulcan de Fuego de Colima.
In Europe, Jan has climbed in England climbing sea cliffs in Cornwall. He has climbed in Scotland both on sea cliffs and walls near Applecross.
He has climbed on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland on the Cuillin Ridge and in other areas of the island.
Jan has also climbed in the Chamonix Valley France, climbing numerous walls near Argentiere and made a number of ascents in the Aiguilles Rouges.
He has been an instructor in Rock climbing at U.S.C. for approximately 18 years and has occasionally provided private guide services.
