The Planning Team for the 2009 PDS National Conference invites you to submit proposals for two distinct types of sessions:
Concurrent Sessions (all 45 minutes long)
Concurrent Sessions must specifically address one of four conference questions. In submitting your proposal, be sure to indicate which of the four questions you are addressing and make clear how your session will address that question. Preference will be given to proposals submitted by teams cutting across the P-16 continuum.
Question #1: How does professional development successfully engage constituent groups within the PDS? PDS relationships focus on the professional preparation of future educators and on the continuing professional development of educators already in the field. Proposals addressing this question should identify how teacher candidates are incorporated as full participants in the PDS community and/or how the relationship provides on-going professional development for faculty and staff within the PDS.
Question #2: How is best practice defined, implemented, and shared within and beyond the PDS? Implicit in a PDS relationship is a focus on providing improved and enhanced educational opportunities for all P-12 students and sharing the results of that work with others. Proposals addressing this question should describe best practices incorporated in the PDS and how those practices are shared with others, both within and outside of the particular PDS.
Question #3: What is involved in the creation and managing of a PDS? PDS relationships work best when they are based on mutually crafted written agreements and include a structure that allows all participants a forum for on-going governance, reflection, and communication. Proposals addressing this question should describe the written agreements which guide the relationship (and the process used is arriving at the agreements) and/or the structures in place which allow for continued governance, reflection, and communication.
Question #4: What does it take to run a PDS day-to-day and to sustain it over time? PDS relationships hinge on formal and/or informal roles played by both college/university and P-12 faculty, dedicated and shared resources across the school-university continuum, and rewards and recognition structures which acknowledge the work of all participants. Proposals addressing this question should describe the formal and/or informal roles played by various participants, explain how resources are shared across the partnership, and/or provide details about the processes in place to reward and recognize PDS participants.
Poster Sessions (accepted from teacher candidates only; two-hour session on Saturday morning)
For the second year in a row, teacher candidates are invited to offer visual demonstrations of any aspect of their work in Professional Development School settings. Conference participants will have the opportunity to walk throughout the room and engage teacher candidates in conversations about their work.
Proposal Guidelines
The deadline for proposals is October 15, 2008 (postmarked). Proposals are limited to 250 words or less and must be submitted on school/district/institution letterhead. Place the title of the proposal at the top of the page, followed by the full names and institutional affiliations of the presenter(s). Skip

Notifications of Acceptance of Proposals will be mailed in December. If your proposal is accepted, you will be provided with conference registration
materials at that time and required to submit registration materials and payment in January. Once these materials are received, we will schedule all
sessions and notify you of the day and time of your presentation. The conference planning committee will make every attempt to honor your requested
day, but we cannot guarantee that everyone will receive his/her first choice. We therefore encourage you not to make flight arrangements until you are
notified of the day and time of your presentation; we plan to provide this schedule by February 2009.
