FILEMAKER PRO

Note to College of Education Faculty/Staff Members:

The COE purchased a number of licenses for FileMaker Pro as part of a package for special projects. If you need a copy of FileMaker Pro on your University-owned or leased computer, please complete
an IT Work Order at http://www.ed.sc.edu/oit/workorder/OITWorkorder.asp
Please include a brief description of the project for which you will be using the software. If you need the program for other uses, please follow the instructions below.

Please note that there are major differences between the versions of Filemaker Pro. Before upgrading to a new version, you may want to check with the others who are using it for the same projects to confirm that you will be using the same version. If you would like to find out about others who are using this program in the College or you would like to discuss other issues associated with this product, please use the Assistance Purchasing Software area of the Instructional Support Request Form
[ http://www.ed.sc.edu/ois/instructionSupport.asp ] or call 803-777-4475.

PURCHASING FILEMAKER PRO

Individual licenses for Filemaker Pro are on State contract and can be purchased through a company called Compusult, Inc. Compusult will take University purchase orders or you can purchase products from them using a University credit card. The Purchase Requisition form can be found at http://purchasing.sc.edu/pur-req2.pdf . Submit the completed form through your department. Compusult will send a software package and/or proof of purchase documentation.

For current pricing and other information about this program:

1. Go to Compusult at http://compusult.com/
2. Choose Schools and Colleges (You'll be warned that this is only for academic purchases. Click OK)
3. Then Filemaker
4. Then Filemaker Pro

You can buy the full package , which includes documentation and was described as “like you'd buy the box off the shelf”, individually or in 5- or 10-user packages. If you only need one copy (or fewer than 10), you'll need to purchase the full package. To purchase new licenses only, you will need to purchase a minimum of 10 licenses. There is special pricing based on volume (10-19, 20-34, etc.) Upgrade licenses can be purchased individually or in volume.

Please note that you need to purchase one license for each computer you will install it on, but the license will be good until you want to upgrade to another version (unlike some software programs, which have annual licenses.) Licenses for faculty/staff or student personal computers can be purchased at contract pricing by going to the 'Students and Educators' area on the Compusult web page.

As soon as you get the license information from Compusult, please complete a Work Order to have the software installed on your computer. This can be done online at the Office of Information Technology's site at http://www.ed.sc.edu/oit .

LEARNING TO USE THE PROGRAM

In the College of Education, there are a few individual faculty/staff members who use Filemaker Pro, but there are currently no copies installed on the stations in the Training Center . Assistance using Filemaker Pro is not always available in the Training Center ecause the Instructional Support trainers do not always know how to use this program. If you are interested in learning to use Filemaker Pro, please use the Individual or Group Training area of the Instructional Support Request Form
[ http://www.ed.sc.edu/ois/instructionSupport.asp ] and a trainer will arrange a time for you to meet with someone who knows the program. When the decision is made to upgrade all the offices using Filemaker Pro to the latest version, training will be scheduled in the Training Center .

A few online resources for learning to use Filemaker Pro can be found on the Instructional Support Training Materials page at http://www.ed.sc.edu/ois/howtoguides/software_programs.htm
