PURCHASING ACROBAT
Please note that there are two programs that are commonly called Adobe Acrobat. The first is the free Adobe Reader, which allows you to read PDF (portable document format) files. The second program, Acrobat Professional, is a commercial product that allows you to read and produce PDF files. The free Adobe Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe site at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
PURCHASING ACROBAT PROFESSIONAL
Acrobat Professional is available for University-owned or -leased computers through the USC Software Distribution System. Please note that you need to purchase one license for each computer you will install it on, but the license will be good until you want to upgrade to another version (unlike some software programs, which have annual licenses.)
USC Software Distribution - The new USC Software Distribution system for purchasing licenses and/or CDs works through VIP .
The person who is authorized to spend money from the account should use his/her VIP account. If the total is over $100 you should be prompted to print out the request, have it signed by the authorized person, and then fax it to USC Software Distribution (at 777-2626.)
1. Log in to VIP and go to the Technology area.
2. Choose [Show Me] Software Distribution and find the title you want.
Notice that some items, such as Adobe Acrobat Professional, offer the license and the CD separately. The COE 's Information Technology office purchases CDs for the current versions of these programs, so you only need to purchase the license. When you have done this, complete an IT Work Order at http://www.ed.sc.edu/oit/workorder/OITWorkorder.asp
3. Follow the directions to submit your request.
Additional information can be obtained from USC Software Distribution's web site at http://www.sc.edu/software/ or by calling 777-4657.
