Purchasing Specific Programs Contractual Purchasing

The University has contracts to purchase a variety of software at reduced prices or provide it through campus license agreements at no cost. Most of these contracts require that the software be used on University owned or leased computers for official business. Please, note that Instructional Support does not provide assistance for the personal use of software.

Contractual Purchasing - There are two places to purchase software at contract prices. Both sources have some titles available for the personal use of students and faculty/staff.

• USC Software Distribution - The new USC Software Distribution system for purchasing licenses and or CDs works through VIP. The person who is authorized to spend money from the account should use his/her VIP account. If the total is over $100 you should be prompted to print out the request, have it signed by the authorized person, and then fax it to USC Software Distribution at 777-2626.
  

  1. Log in to VIP and go to the Technology area.

  2. Choose (Show Me) Software Distribution and find the title you want. Notice that some items, such as Adobe Acrobat Professional, offer the license and the CD separately. The COE's Information Technology office purchases CDs for the current versions of these programs, so you only need to purchase the license. When you have done this, complete an Information Technology Work Order at http://www.ed.sc.edu/oit/workorder/OITWorkorder.asp

  3. Follow the directions to submit your request

     Additional information can be obtained from USC Software Distribution's web site at http://www.sc.edu/software/

• Compusult, Inc. - This company offers special state pricing for educational institutions in South Carolina. Information can be obtained on their web site at:
  http://www.compusult.com
  
  Once on the site, choose Schools and Colleges to search for the availability of software for University-owned or leased computers. (Choose Students and Educators to purchase software for personal use.)
  
  Compusult will take University purchase orders of you can purchase products from them on the phone using a University credit card. The Purchase Request form can be found at http://purchasing.sc.edu/pur-req.pdf . Submit the completed form through your department. Compusult will send a software package and/or proof of purchase documentation.

As soon as you get the license information from Compusult, please complete a Work Order to have the software installed on your computer. This can be done online at the Office of Information Technology's site at: http://www.ed.sc.edu/oit/workorder/OITWorkorder.asp.
