Q.

What is VIP?

A.

VIP ( https://vip.sc.edu ) is the secure web site that allows you to login with your USC ID and PIN OR My VIP ID and Password and register for classes, pay fees, check your grades and publish your personal information in the USC Online Directory. VIP also allows you to apply for/check the status of several technology services available to USC students, including looking up your USC Network.

Q.

How Do I Login to VIP?

A.

Use a computer with an Internet connection and a browser. Open your web browser and type https://vip.sc.edu into the address field at the top. Once you're at the VIP web site, click on Login. Enter your USC Identification Number (your social security number). Active students and staff may set a My VIP ID password and from then on login using the My VIP ID rather than the SSN. Then you will need to enter either your student or employee Pin number depending on your status at the University. Click Login.

Q.

What is my PIN number for VIP ?

A.

If you have never logged into VIP before, click on "What is my student PIN?" or "What is my employee PIN?" from the main VIP page.

If you forget your PIN call the Office of the University Registrar at 777-5555. You may also pick up your PIN in person (with a picture I.D.) from the Office of the University Registrar, Third Floor, Petigru College. Your PIN cannot be released via email.

Q.

How do I set the password for MY VIP ID?

A.

As of Wednesday, February 21, 2007, you now have an alternative way to log into VIP - one that does not require you to use your social security number.

Here's how it works for first-time users:

  1. Go to the VIP site ( https://vip.sc.edu ) and login with your SSN and 4-digit pin.

  2. You will see a new screen that provides your new MY VIP ID login number and you will be prompted to set a unique password for it. This is separate from your network username and password.

  3. You can choose to set your password now or wait until later. If you set a password now, you will be able to use the MY VIP ID method to access VIP.

  4. Tabs for both options will be available the next time you go to the VIP site, and that site will not change.

  5. Make sure to remember the MY VIP ID number and password you set, as this will be your alternative login to VIP.

For the time being, using MY VIP ID will not be required. Once the conversion to a new student and administrative information system has been completed for the USC community, the MY VIP ID will be required.

Q.

Q.

What is my Blackboard username and password?

A.

If you do not know your USC Network Username/PW combination (or if you have forgotten your password), login to VIP (http://vip.sc.edu ). Click on the Technology link . Click on Show Me Network Username. Your USC Network Username will be displayed and you will be prompted to choose your password. You must type in the password twice to verify your choice. Click on the SET PASSWORD button to set your new password. Allow a few minutes to pass before you attempt to login to Blackboard again.

Q.

Why don't I see my course listed in Blackboard?

A.

First, go to VIP and see if your enrollment shows in the Academics section of your VIP. If so, please note that it may take 48 hours for a course to rollover from VIP (the mainframe database) into Blackboard. If you registered late for a class, it will take time for your course to appear in Blackboard. If it has been over 48 hours since enrollment on VIP, then contact the UTS HelpDesk, 777-1800 and provide your username, USC ID, and the class code and section that is missing. If the course is not showing up in VIP, you should contact the Registrar's Office (777-5555). If you were able to access your classes on Blackboard, but they have disappeared, first check your enrollment status for this semester under the Academics section on VIP. You may have been dropped from the class by the Registrar's Office for some reason (e.g., a problem with payment). Check on your registration status and call 777-1800 to request to be reinstated in your Blackboard course. If you don't see a problem with your registration, call 777-1800 so UTS can troubleshoot the problem.

Q.

Blackboard doesn't work on my home computer, but it does work on other computers. What's the problem?

A.

You can use either a Mac or Windows PC. The Blackboard system requires a modern web browser, with cookies, Javascript and SSL enabled, plus Java version 1.4.1 or later. Running a browser that does not support these, or has them disabled in its settings, will result in login problems. If you can log in from the Office of Instructional Support, College of Education, but you can't log in at home, then it's definitely a configuration problem on your home computer. Blackboard also recommends the follwoing browser versions: Windows 2000, Windows XP, (also Win 98 and ME) Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0, Mozilla 1.3 or later and Safari. The Mac System facors MacOS 9.2 and MacOS X. You can get further advice from USC's Computer Services Department at 777-1800.

Q.

Where do I go to download the free USC Trend Micro OfficeScan on my personal computer?

A.

The Trend Micro client is licensed for faculty, staff, and student computers engaged in USC teaching, learning, research, and administration, and is not intended for personal use. University students are licensed to use Trend Micro for their personal computers. Click here to access the free download and instructions at USC's Technology Services.

Q.

How can I forward email from my University E-mail account to my home or work email account?

A.

To forward your e-mail messages to a personal e-mail account, you must establish a forward rule within Outlook Web Access.  *

Login to Outlook Web Access with your network username.

  1. Select Rules on the menu in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

  2. Select new from the menu across the top of the window.

  3. Enter a name for your forward rule. *This step is optional.

  4. Under the heading Then , select the Forward it to button.

  5. Enter your personal e-mail address to which your e-mail will be forwarded.

  6. If you do not want to retain a copy in your University e-mail mailbox, uncheck the box labeled Keep a copy in my Inbox . Note that messages in student inboxes will be automatically deleted after 60 days. If your mailbox grows beyond it's size limit, you must manually delete some messages to continue receiving your forwarded mail.

  7. Click Save and Close to finish.

*NOTE: Currently, Mozilla Firefox does not support a RULE option. At USC, the UTS staff are working on an alternative. A quick fix until a solution is provided is to use Internet Explorer to set this forwarding rule.
