Greetings From Our Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education (ITE) at the University of South Carolina. Our fourfold mission is to prepare educators who:
- Respond effectively to the complexity of 21st century schools and classrooms characterized by increasingly diverse populations;
- Use evidence-based strategies and practices to provide equitable and effective opportunities for all people to learn;
- Are prepared to effectively use available technology and resources to reach all learners and connect them to the world beyond the classroom; and
- Promote democratic principles and ideas within all educational settings.
The department has six academic programs areas: 1) Early Childhood Education; 2) Elementary Education; 3) Middle Level Education; 4) Secondary Education; 5) Curriculum Studies, and 6) Language and Literacy Education. We offer degree programs at bachelor, masters and doctoral levels.
