He writes, "The purpose of my reserach is to broaden our understanding of the missionary educational experience in Africa through an examination of the lived experiences of the Sukuma teachers and students in the educational activites of the American Missionaries in Tansania (1909-1970)." Originally from Mwanza, Tansania, Fabian graduated from Scott Theological College in Kenya with a Bachelors in Theology, then received his Masters in Divinity (Christian Education) and Masters in New Testament from Columbia International University in Columbia, SC. Mr. Maganda was selected in a merit-based competition for the New Scholars Workshop at the Comparative and International Education Society's meeting in Baltimore. Although an emergency forced him to miss this year's conference, the selection was a great honor. Although Mr. Maganda has pursued his international educational research and dissertation work within the Foundations of Education Program, it is possible to do international work and dissertation research in many (if not all) of USC's education programs. Contact the faculty directly to discuss possibilities. Mr. Maganda writes that "The Foundations of Education Program in the Collge of Education at USC offers a very friendly environment, where I have received individualized attention from faculty and staff. The diversity of academic interests, professional experiences, and personal backgrounds that professors and students bring to this program allow tremendous extension and cross-fertilization of ideas. Having this wealth of academic diversity has allowed me to uniquely pursue my own research interests. Additionally, I've been aided greatly in my academic pursuits by the encouragement shown by my advisor, Professor Alan Wieder, classmates, and colleagues." |
