This baseline specification is reviewed by the Director
of Information Technology on an annual basis to determine
whether the existing standard is sufficient to run
current software. The Associate Dean for Administration
and Research approves changes to the baseline specification.
When a change is approved, the Director of Information
Technology will identify computers that fall below
the new baseline and will publish an upgrade schedule.
Upgrades are funded out of the Information Technology
budget. Occasionally a faculty or staff member might
need special hardware beyond what is offered during
the upgrade process. The Information Technology department
will be happy to order extra hardware and install
it as part of the upgrade, but individual departments
and offices will need to provide funding for these
extras.
The College does not support the Mac standard, though
any individual can use whatever computer platform
they feel comfortable with. Once the College establishes
hardware and software standards, we put our training
resources into providing support for this standard
so we cannot guarantee support for other choices
that individuals make. Similarly, if you choose to
purchase a second computer, such as a laptop, the
IT department will be happy to assist with upgrades
but your department or office resources will need
to be used for this upgrade.
