The Nature Conservancy

You must admit, seeing this page is not a great shock considering that you are looking at a track about the environment. From here on, we aim for less predictability. By the way, the clock is ticking so listen up. First, explore this page. Consider The Nature Conservancy's purpose and answer the following: What are TNC goals as an organization? Does this site help them achieve those goals? Second, find the Sierra Club's connection on this track and continue.

Sierra Club Homepage

http://www.sierraclub.org/

Compare this page's layout and design to The Nature Conservancy's homepage. Imagine for a moment that you are a fantastically-successful lawyer who has just received an incredible offer. Within 38 minutes, you must prepare a report for an obnoxiously rich and generous lady who will pay you an 8% commission if you wisely suggest to her which environmental organization to bequeath $1,264,863,083. Fortunately, you just surfed the web and compared the web pages for Sierra Club and The Nature Conservancy. Write a quick summary of your recommendation, determine what your 8% cut will be, and file your report. Hurry though; you only have about twelve minutes left.

Environmental Protection Agency

http://www.epa.gov/epahome/

The EPA is an agency of the federal government. Why would their treatment of environmental issues vary from that of "big business" or "tree-hugging organizations?" Pick a topic from this page and take notes on content, tone, and intended audience. Return to either The Nature Conservancy or Sierra Club (or another site with approval) and research the same topic. Contrast the two perspectives.

National Consortium for Environmental Education and Training

As a hip cat, you have long recognized the Internet as a grand source of information. Your assignment is to convince your technologically-illiterate teacher of the same. Outline an oral presentation that will persuade your teacher to allow you to utilize web-based resources for your "Environmental Awareness: My Perspective" project. Include examples of relevant sites that you would use.
