In 1994 the University of Virginia developed the Classroom Technology Initiative (CTI), a project to promote innovative technology in teaching and course development. Supported by both public and private resources and involving many departments and units, the CTI seeks to affect a transition, where appropriate and desirable, from teaching based on paper and traditional lectures to new methods based on interactive multimedia.
