Time considerations and tips for classroom management:
The transportation theme will be carried through all areas of the curriculum for one week. The first day will begin with the whole class being introduced to the concept of transportation through the use of the video disk examples and those printed from the Internet. On the second day, the students will review the concept and discuss personal experiences. Students will be placed in small groups to begin work on a story involving 3 modes of transportation. The teacher will provide students with a variety of pictures for brainstorming. These pictures will come from the internet and various other sources. The stories will be written using Kid Works. The third day will involve a review of the concept with the students discussing, listing, and illustrating modes of transportation used to get to school. The students will also continue working on the story. On the fourth day, the students will discuss similarities and differences in modes of transportation within each category (ie. bikes vs trucks). After completing the stories, the children will illustrate them using Kid Works. The fifth day the students will share their stories with the entire class.
