Lesson Plan
Lesson Theme:
Anatomy: The structure and systems of the Human body.
Target Audience:
Secondary (10th - 12th grade) self-contained or inclusive setting.
Objectives:
TSWBAT locate specified structures on the Human body diagram.
TSWBAT define the function of specified human body parts.
TSWBAT describe the main systems of the human body.
TSWBAT describe specific pathologies or disease as they relate to the human body
TSWBAt build collaborate skills for group projects.
TSWBAT use beginner skills in independent research.
Instructional Material:
* Web site on anatomy of the human body systems
The Levit Radiologoc Pathologic Institute
*software
Type of Classroom Activities:
Group setting with LCD pallet to demonstrate A.D.A.M. program.
Small group interaction with A.D.A.M. to complete specified puzzle projects.
Students will work on group research assignments with text medical journals and encyclopedias.
Students will draw from "grab bag" of disease of human systems. A grab bag is where the teacher will put a number of diseases into a bag. Each student will take one from the bag and describe the disease, a questionaire will be provided by the teacher for the students to follow.
Students will draw from "grab bag" of preventative measures of disease.
Pre-requisite skills:
Students will work in small research groups.
Teacher will have created outlines of required information and diagrams to promote high success of student outcome learning.
Instructional Events:
* Teacher will present large diagrams of the human body for students to label specified parts and functions .
* Students will be randomly called on to draw from the "grab bag".
* Group presentations on anatomy functions and pathologies.
Time consideration & samples; Tips for classroom management:
The anatomy lesson will be a 45 minute project each day for eight weeks. Students will focus on one body system per week. Students will familiarize themselves with anatomy through A.D.A.M. demonstrations and puzzles, internet research engines, their text and other materials available. In the form of group presentations using A.D.A.M.'s human body silhouette with LCD pallet, student will display proficiency in labeling body parts and systems, describe their functions and informing the class of pathologies and preventive measures.
