The Diana King Method for Teaching Touch-Typing
Example Provided for EDEX 750 Technology for Special Populations
This method replied on teaching an alphabetic sequence with simultaneous oral spelling. (S.O.S.) The whole alphabet can be mastered in forty minutes, but must be followed by daily periods of practice to develop speed and accuracy.
Start:Fingers are place over "HOME" keys.
Left fingers on ASDF
Right hand fingers on JKL;
(G and H are left free in center)
All other keys are "HOT" so fingers get off quickly & back to home base.
Beginning Rhyme:
Little finger A, reach for the B,
Middle Finger, C, D, E,
Index F and G.
First right finger H,
Reach up for I,
JKL three in a row,
M and N side by side,
Right ring finger up for O,
Both little fingers P and Q
Left index up for R
Ring finger S, index reach for the T
Right index up for U - left down for V
Left ring finger up for W - down for X
Right index up for Y
Left pinky Z.
Now you have them all you see.
Practice Steps
Practice alphabet as learned, continue until automatic speed increases
Continue in the following manner:
1. Alphabet followed by A - period - space - space
B - period - space - space
2. Alphabet followed by A - comma - space
B - comma - space
3. Above followed by dictated one-syllable words
4. Above followed by dictated lists of common words.
