EDEX 531 Fall 1998: Article Reviews

  1. Quantitative Research (i.e., group design, surveys, single subject)
  2. Theoretical/case study/enthnographic (i.e., interviews, case studies, descriptions of teaching methods, use of technology)
  3. Popular magazines/teaching ideas (i.e., parent, news, teaching magazines)
All article reviews must follow APA guidelines for citation of the journal article. If the article is located on the web, please document with the name of the web site and the URL address. Usually articles found on the web are reprints from journal articles, if so then please document with original citation also.
1. Research Article: example
Research articles have a definite design. The authors of these articles will explain in detial research with a group of students, surveys, or single subjects. These articles always include a description of the research question, participants and setting, methodology including the statistical design, results and implications. This critique does not have to be in paragraph format but can be an outline including the listed points.
2. Theoretical or Case Study example
A case study or qualitative research will include a description of the students, setting and the teaching methods. A case study can discuss implications of observations, interviews, and/or critiques of student work. Theoretical models discuss perspectives for organizing thoughts or previous ideas on a topic. You can include articles related to the use of technology for students with learning disabilities in this category. Include
3. Popular magazine article example
A review of a topic related to learning disabilities and/or treatments found in a mainstream or teaching magazine (e.g., Newsweek, Health, Parents, Readers Digest, Instructor, Learning).
