Monday Matters
This will be an abbreviated version of Monday Matters, due to weekend sickness and unanticipated bureaucratic delays today. Let me use this opportunity to remind you that the College web is fast becoming a dynamic source of information. If you haven't noticed already, news is being posted to the web on an almost daily basis. Although you can see the major headlines and accompanying links on the College home page, there are many more stories available on the news page at http://www.ed.sc.edu/news.asp. This page replaces all major news outlets at the College, including email announcements and the former Good News newsletter. You should make a habit of visiting this page.
You have probably also noticed that new web pages are being created on a fairly regular basis. The most recent of these is the Family Fund page located at http://www.ed.sc.edu/alumni/familyfund.html. Here you can find a convenient listing of all the funds that you can contribute to in the College. The fund numbers are provided as well. Now is a perfect time to make at least a small gift to one of these funds and thereby help us reach our goal of a ten percentage point increase in the number of our College faculty and staff that contribute to the University through the Family Fund. Remember that the percentage giving in the College is a key indicator that we use when soliciting donors to help out the College during these rough budget times.
By now you have received several emails alerting you to the posting of minutes of College meetings and committees. We don't send an email for every posting, so you'll want to check for new postings of minutes at http://www.ed.sc.edu/Documents.asp. Here you will also find a convenient access to other College documents, such as the By-Laws and the 2003 - 2004 Strategic Plan. If you are a committee chair or secretary, please be sure that all minutes of College meetings get to Holly Rauch for insertion into the documents page. Holly will be happy to turn your word processing file into a PDF document before putting the minutes on the web. Also, if other College documents should be on the web, please let us know. The success of this project depends on all of us.
Finally, you will begin to see more and more forms appear on the web. As much as possible, we are trying to make these either electronic forms or PDF forms that can be filled out online before being saved and emailed or printed and mailed. A good example of this is the student scholarship form. Take a peek and see what you think at http://www.ed.sc.edu/news_pdf_files/scholarship%20application%202003-2004.pdf.
Next week a regular edition of Monday Matters will return with a comprehensive look at the online course evaluation system.
Until next week,
Mike
